Membership

ARTICLE I

SECTION 1 – Eligibility

There shall be five (5) types of membership within the Club, all open to persons who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club, Inc. and the Newfoundland Club of America, Inc., who subscribe to the purposes of the Constitution of the High Country Newfoundland Club, Inc. (hereafter referred to as the Club) and who agree to abide by the Bylaws and the Code of Ethics of the Club. General memberships are restricted to persons eighteen (18) years of age or older and who reside in the States of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.  Members who move outside the region will automatically be converted to an Affiliate Membership.

A.   Individual General Membership – Open to individuals 18 years of age or older.  Individual members (referred to hereafter as members or membership) shall enjoy all the privileges described within these Bylaws.  They may attend Club meetings, participate in all Club functions, hold office and vote on official Club business, with each individual having one vote in all Club Matters, and they shall receive all Club publications.  They are eligible to receive awards given by the Club.  All General Members pay annual dues.

B.   Family General Membership – Open to two named members of the same household who are 18 years of age or older and shall have all the privileges of an Individual General Member, with each individual having one vote in all Club Matters but will receive only one (1) copy of Club publications. 

C.   Junior Membership – Open to individuals between the ages of eight (8) and eighteen (18) years of age.  Junior Members shall have all of the privileges of Individual General Membership except for the rights to vote or hold office. Upon reaching their 18th birthday, a Junior Member may convert to an Individual General Membership by notifying the Secretary.

D.   Honorary Life Membership – Honorary Life Membership may be granted by a two-thirds (2/3rds) vote of the Board of Directors and is subject to acceptance by the individual.  Honorary Life Members shall enjoy all the privileges described within these Bylaws.  They may attend Club meetings, participate in all Club functions, hold office and vote on official Club business, with each individual having one vote in all Club Matters, and they shall receive all Club publications.  They are eligible to receive awards given by the Club.  Honorary Life Members are exempt from annual dues.

E.  Affiliate Membership – Affiliate (out of region) Members may attend all Club meetings and participate in all Club functions.  They shall receive all Club publications.  They may not vote on official Club business, hold any elective office or chair committees, and are not eligible to receive awards given by the Club.
